Teflon product PTFE (TFE) and Kynar-PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The world requirement for this mineral has risen significantly, and also the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and incredibly low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilised within tons of applications from non-stick fry kitchenware to ptfe tape for personal use. This specific mineral is a important raw materials inside the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and several refrigerants. This increase in demand joined together with shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double in the last year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to stay in affect in the near future.
